![]() ![]() I will tell you what works for me and what doesn’t (regarding plot, writing, pace, structure, stakes, hook, clarity, conflict, dialogue, character, world-building, overarching elements, etc.). After participating as a judge in many online contests in which I could see what agents requested, I learned when queries were successful and when they weren’t. What I enjoy the most is working on story elements, and on queries. Now, this said, I’m NOT a copy editor or proofreader. My line-by-line notes tend to discuss word choices, sentence structure, grammar, spelling, clichés, wordiness, stilted or unnatural dialogue, internal dialogue, “show versus tell,” punctuation, etc. ![]() I mostly work with big-picture edits, but I can also do line-edits. I’ve worked with New York Times bestselling authors, and you know what’s been fun? Seeing my name on the acknowledgements of many books (like CARAVAL by Stephanie Garber, THE CROWN’S GAME by Evelyn Skye, POSSESS by Gretchen McNeil… more books below). ![]() As a freelance editor for almost a decade, I’ve had the great pleasure of working with writers who have not only gained offers of representation from literary agents, but have attained book deals (many with Big 5 editors, and a couple six-figure deals too). ![]()
